A hand-finished solid oak frame compliments Alison’s work beautifully and they are
our speciality. In the photo are three of our proprietary solid oak moulding profiles.
These are unfinished and they illustrate the variation in colour and grain that can
occur in oak, which we take great care to match. In addition to clear wax finish
we can supply the following coloured finishes:
Limed and Black Patinated Finishes
These finishes are created by opening the grain with a bronze brush then applying
either white liming wax (left) or black patinating wax (right). After the excess
is removed and a clear wax applied you are left with a finish that emphasizes the
grain pattern.
Two-Coat Liquid Wax Finishes
Liquid wax finish is available in two colours - medium oak (left) and dark oak (right).
The wax is applied with a cloth, buffed, then repeated to achieve the full lustre.
In contrast to the the stain finishes below, liquid wax emphasizes the grain pattern.
Stain with Clear Wax Finishes (Lighter Colours)
A single coat of water-based woodstain is applied, finished with a coat of clear
wax once dry. The woodstains tend to apply an even colour to the whole piece and
do not emphasize the grain. This picture shows Light Oak (left), Medium Oak (centre)
and Dark Oak (right).
Stain with Clear Wax Finishes (Darker Colours)
A single coat of water-based woodstain is applied, finished with a coat of clear
wax once dry. The woodstains tend to apply an even colour to the whole piece and
do not emphasize the grain. This picture shows Jacobean Oak (left), Black (centre)
and Ebony (right).
